The Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress is a hybrid memory foam-spring mattress designed to regulate sleepers’ body temperature by capturing their excess body heat and redistributing it throughout the mattress. It comes compressed in a box, which makes it easier to move from your door to the bedroom. It is however quite heavy to manoeuvre so I recommend enlisting some help in hoisting the mattress up the staircase and onto the bed frame.

Unboxing and First Impressions: Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress – Comfort, Convenience, and Peace of Mind

Once placed in position with its plastic covering removed (a cutter is provided in the box for this purpose) the mattress immediately starts to inflate and increase in size. It takes 24 hours for the mattress to fully decompress and like most bed-in-a-box foam mattresses the Luxe Cooling Mattress does release a slight chemical smell once it’s opened. This should dissipate within 24 to 48 hours, and it did not disrupt my sleep. Emma allows you try the mattress for up to 100 nights, risk-free. If you decide the mattress isn't right for you, they'll pick it up, and you will receive a full refund. If you decide to keep the mattress, it's backed by a 10-year warranty.

Heat Regulation

ThermoSync® Technology creates a temperature regulating sleep surface, to keep you at the optimal sleeping temperature throughout the night. The mattress is therefore perfect for those sleepers who prefer a cooler night's sleep or who tend to sleep hot. Although I tested the mattress in cool autumn conditions, I didn’t find myself overcooling, my body temperature remained constant. The mattress also has an anti-allergy, moisture-resistant cover that is both breathable and regulates your temperature while you sleep. The cover can be easily removed for washing. If you suffer with night sweats, I think the breathability features of this mattress will be a great fit.

Comfort

Emma rates its Luxe Cooling Mattress which comprises seven layers of foam plus pocket springs, as medium firm with orthopaedic support. The independent pocket springs provides support to your hips, shoulders and back, keeping your spine aligned and posture controlled. Its unique Halo Memory Foam™ contours to your body shape providing personalised support but springing back to its original shape once pressure is removed. My partner and I found the mattress to be both supportive and cushioning. As someone prone to joint pain my partner noted his back, and hips were well supported while lying in bed. As a back sleeper and my partner, a side sleeper, we found the mattress to be super comfortable and the firmness for us both was right. The Luxe Cooling Mattress has doubtlessly contributed to a better night’s sleep for both of us.

Sleep partners especially are often concerned with excessive motion transfer. Not only does the Luxe Cooling Mattress provide users with the ideal body temperature, but it also absorbs motion. It has “no roll together” technology and personalised sleeping zones to ensure you are not disturbed by your partner rolling over in the night. Sleeping on the mattress, I found motion isolation was excellent, and I experienced very minimal disturbance when my sleep partner switched sleep positions or got in and out of bed.

Verdict

I really enjoyed sleeping on the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress. Unlike most other memory foam mattresses, it delivered the perfect temperature so that I did not overheat (albeit I was unable to test it in a more extreme temperature), medium firmness and orthopaedic support, and overall real comfort. If you are looking for a mattress upgrade, I would highly recommend the Emma Luxe cooling Mattress.
