Embracing Autumn's Sleepy Vibes: Why Fall Makes It Easier to Sleep and How to Extend It Year-Round

Autumn is widely regarded as the easiest season to sleep. Like bears preparing to hibernate for Winter, the seasons changing makes it easier to get to sleep than it has been for months. But what is it about Autumn that makes it so sleepy? And is there anything you can do to make it feel like Autumn all year round?

Bundling up in Blankets

It's officially cosy season, and that means cuddling up under lots of soft blankets. We are genetically predisposed as a species to enjoy warmth and soft things, so having lots of blankets around is a great way to get a good night's sleep. At myza, we stock a variety of blankets, in different textures and materials, so whatever you love to sleep in, we've got you covered.

Want to get the same feeling in Summer? Try the Air Eucalyptus Duvet from Mela. All the lovely weight of cosy blankets, but with cooling Eucalyptus so you won't overheat.

Breathing Easily

The start of spooky season also means the end of itchy eyes and irritated lungs. Summer brings with it a lot of allergens, so the cooler months bring with them an end to all the sniffling and hay fever. You're also just ahead of the winter flus that will come whether you want them or not. So bask in the joy of the season of easy breathing!

Tired of sniffling? Why not invest in an air purifier? It won't help with when you're out and about, but they can be a great investment during those congested summer nights.

Black, Black as the Clams of the Night

It's Autumn, which means it gets darker earlier. As we approach the Winter Solstice, nights get longer and longer. That means that you won't have to worry about the bright lights of the day keeping you awake. At Midsummer, the sky stays bright until at least 9pm! Even ignoring the clocks changing the sunset will get earlier and earlier, until we reach the 4pm sunset. It is much easier to fall asleep in the dark, with less distractions around. Take advantage of the earlier darkness and have an early night. Go on, treat yourself - your mind and body will thank you.

Can't sleep because it's too light out? Try black out blinds. A great alternative to traditional curtains, these are made of specific, thick fabric, capable of blocking out all light. Too dark outside? The bedside lamp is, no joke, one of mankind's better inventions. This Lumie Bodyclock Rise 100 alarm clock mimics natural sunrise and sunset patterns, so if the sunset was too early for you to sleep naturally, you can mimic it from your bedside.

Being Cool (But Not Too Cool)

Autumn means the end of the summer heatwaves (all three of them here in the UK). It's also just before the winter cold snaps. This means you can sleep through the night without constantly turning your pillow over to get to 'the cool side', and without fearing leaving the warmth of your bed for the freezing cold. It's so much easier to get to sleep when you're already at the perfect temperature.

When it's just too hot, why not try filling a hot water bottle with ice water? It sounds like the opposite of what they're for, but a cold water bottle can be a true lifesaver during a heatwave. For those chilly winter mornings, you could treat yourself to this Barisieur Coffee Alarm Clock from Joy Resolve. It wakes you up and makes your coffee all at once, so you don't have to fear the cold morning quite so much. It's also always a good idea to invest in some cosy slippers.
